Behind the window
“Charity is that rational and constant affection, which makes us sacrifice ourselves to the human race, as if we were united with it, so as to form one individual, partaking equally in its adversity and prosperity.”
- Confucius
This week’s entry will be a little short, things are a little hectic today. Tonight is the centre’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Night, and although I try not to talk about us much here, I’m making an exception this time.
As you might now already, YouthInBC.com‘s chat line is answered by volunteers, pretty much every minute of the 13 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year that we’re open. Over the course of last year volunteers clocked in somewhere over 5000 hours worth of time answering chats, and none of them got a paid a dime to do it. Every last one of them took time out of their own schedules to help out, wanted to be sitting there and talking to you about what’s going on, and was probably pretty darn happy to be chatting with you… because we all know that everybody could use someone to talk to at some point or another.
.
So you probably get why every year the centre rents out a big hall and we spend an evening trying to give a little back. But I figure it’s always worth saying once more anyhow:
Thank you, all of you.
Thank you for your time, your energy and your caring.
We wouldn’t be able to do any this without you. <3
