The Kalayaan Centre is a Filipino community centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The various organizations in the Kalayaan Centre struggle for the rights and welfare of and social justice for Filipinos in Canada, while supporting the struggle for human rights, national freedom and democracy of the Filipino people.

Located in the Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver, the Centre houses a number of organizations doing specific work in various sectors of the Filipino community:

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Youth Services promotes the personal growth and career development of young people through a wide variety of programs ranging from the volunteer buddy program, youth volunteer group, youth counselling, to leadership training, employment and entrepreneurial development. Youth services are delivered by different departments in S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Services can be offered in Mandarin and Cantonese.

SUCCESS also offers Chinese Help Lines in both Mandarin and Cantonese. 10am to 10pm every day.

ISS of BC assists immigrants, refugees and non-English speaking BC residents with integration into the community. They provide support groups, ESL classes, skills training, counselling, information and referral.

Youth Programs include:

  • A language college
  • Multicultural Youth Circle Program for Newcomer Youth – 80-hour peer facilitation and leadership training program for immigrant and refugee youth
  • African Youth Program – Academic, social & recreational program for African youth in East Burnaby
  • Youth Connexion – An 18-week employability program with practical skills training, English language support/improvement and a 3-4 week work or volunteer placement.

Provides education, outreach and support to the East and Southeast Asian community, and to people who are dealing with issues about HIV/AIDS. Responds to issues that marginalize East and Southeast Asians, such as HIV/AIDS, sexual health and sexual orientation.

  • ASIA Line is a free, confidential, multilingual sexual health information line available by phone and on-line chat. Available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-9pm.
  • Men’s Health Asian MSM group (Men who have Sex with Men) runs weekly meetings. Anyone who identifies as Asian and gay, bisexual or MSM is welcome. ESL is fine as well!
