Vancouver/Richmond Early Psychosis Intervention – Helping Overcome Psychosis Early

The Vancouver/Richmond Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) is a program for serves youth living in Vancouver or Richmond, aged 13 to 30 and their families, who are experiencing a first-time problem with psychotic symptoms, or are at risk of developing psychosis. They are a multidisciplinary team with a variety of individual and group supports available.

Their site, H.O.P.E., provides information about the early identification and treatment of psychosis.

Child and Adolescent Response Team (CART)

Provides a community-based response to mental health related crisis involving school-aged children and youth (up to 18) living in Vancouver who are experiencing urgent psychiatric or emotional crisis. Services can range from phone consultation to on-site assessment or consultation, short-term counselling or psychiatric assessment.

Program offers:

  • Urgent assessment and consultation
  • Clinical intervention and short term supports
  • Community resource co-ordination
  • Follow-up from hospital to community resources when needed
  • Psychiatric consultation when appropriate

Priority is given to youth that are presenting with self-harming behaviour or suicidal risk.

Mental Health Emergency Services

MHES operates an emergency crisis line where nurses assist callers in crisis, provide information pertaining to resources and triage situations to the appropriate resources.

While they may dispatch ambulance or police as required, MHES also operates hand-in-hand with Car 87, a team of a Vancouver Police constable with a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse to provide on-site assessements and intervention for people with psychiastric problems. They work as a team in assessing, managing and deciding about the most appropriate action.

Serves the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority region.

The Child & Youth Mental Health Services serves children, youth and their families with serious mental health difficulties and/or social, emotional or behavioural disturbances. They are offered throughout the province by MCFD (the Ministry for Child and Family Development).
