The G.N.E. Toolbox is a hub to find information, agencies and services to help youth become independent adults. Set up by the GNE Alternative School, it features a pile of documents and links themed around:

  • Substance use (including setting up a self-treatment)
  • Employment resources
  • Tips for finding and maintaining a place of your own
  • Different sports and activities to unwind, including ways to access them in the East Vancouver area

The Kalayaan Centre is a Filipino community centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The various organizations in the Kalayaan Centre struggle for the rights and welfare of and social justice for Filipinos in Canada, while supporting the struggle for human rights, national freedom and democracy of the Filipino people.

Located in the Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver, the Centre houses a number of organizations doing specific work in various sectors of the Filipino community:

  • Filipino-Canadian Youth Alliance (Ugnayan ng Kabataang Pilipino sa Canada)

Clubs provide out-of-school hours programs in the school year and day camp programs in the summer through six neighbourhood-based clubs around the Lower Mainland:

  • Fraserview Club (South Vancouver)
  • North Burnaby Club
  • Norvan Club (North Vancouver)
  • Kivan Club (Mt. Pleasant)
  • Langley Club
  • Surrey Club

The Boys & Girls Clubs also offers various youth substance abuse services (Nexus, Odyssey 1 & 2) and the following parent support services:

  • Parents Together – A mutual support/self-help group for parents of youth 12-18, with groups in English, Punjabi and Vietnamese.
  • Parents Forever – A mutual support/self-help group for parents and family of adult addicted children (18+)
  • Mediation for Separated Parents - A short-term (~3-4 sessions) program to help parents negotiate their own parenting plans.

The South Vancouver Neighbourhood House serves the community of South Vancouver, bounded by 41st Ave. to the Fraser River, and Cambie to Boundary Road.

Youth programs include:

  • Safe Harbour Youth Ambassador Diversity Program – Youth receive training in order to lead workshops for children surrounding the ideas of diversity and increasing awareness of the Safe Harbour decal. Open to youth in grades 9-12.
  • Homework Haven – For children/youth who are looking for help with their studies or just need a place to do their homework. Program includes one hour of homework and thirty minutes of recreation, snacks and drinks provided.
  • Youth Action Program – volunteer recreational and leadership program for youth aged 15-18
  • Junior Leadership Program & Leadership Program - Youth meet for training related to childcare and recreation outings. Graduates of the Leadership Program are often hired on as summer day camp counsellors at various Neighbourhood Houses.
  • Cultural Buddy Program – “Buddies up” a new immigrant elementary and secondary school youth with a more established immigrant secondary school youth speaking the same first language.

Gordon Neighbourhood house delivers programs and services to the residents of Vancouver’s West End area (Yaletown, Coal Harbour, downtown).

Open M-W 9am-9pm, Th-Sa 9am-4:30pm, closed Sundays.

Youth Programs include:

  • Girls Pre-teen Program – Recreational program for girls aged 9-12 – Saturdays 2-5pm
  • Pre-teen Youth Group – Coed Recreational group for youth (9-15) – Fridays 5-8pm
  • Youth S.E.A.R.Ch. – Employment resource for young adults, aged 15-30, who are unemployed, eligible to work in Canada and seeking to enter the labour force. (www.youthsearch.ca)

Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House is an organization that delivers a wide variety of programs and services to the residents of Northeast Vancouver.

Youth services offered include:

  • Youth Connection Program – An after-school program that matches newcomers to Canada aged 10-16 with a Canadian “buddy”
  • Scholarship Bursary Program – An informational workshop series on topics linked to post-secondary education and provides one-on-one support in the process of applying for scholarships and bursaries.
  • Youth Volunteer Skills Development program – Ten skill development workshops, 6 hours of in-program training, 10 hours of service, fun, a chance to meet new people and fill your CAPP requirement
  • BASE – A mentoring program that works to address bullying, harassement and discrimination at Vancouver Technical School.

Crescent Beach Community Services runs Alexandra Neighbourhood House out Camp Alexandra where they are a neighbourhood house, residential summer camp and an overnight retreat by the ocean. Under any name, they provide a wide variety of programs and services for the entire community.

Youth programs offered include: Family mediation; both youth and family support outreach; and an Outdoor Leadership Program.

Alexandra Neighbourhood House’s Child Youth and Family Centre (located at 15455 Vine Ave. in White Rock) is also home to the Vine Avenue Youth Wellness Drop-in clinic. (link)
