VAFCS is a community centre that provides social, cultural, recreational, and other life-enhancing programs and services to aboriginal people making the transition to urban society.

Programs include:

  • A recreational program for youth with drop-in sessions, sports, arts & crafts.
  • Our Elders Speak Wisdom has two weekly luncheons, drop-in, food banks and activities for elders of aboriginal descent from all different tribes across Canada.

The Town Plaza Medical Clinic in Whistler provides health care services to residents and visitors seven days a week. In addition to general practice and family medicine, the clinic also provides urgent care, minor emergency services, counselling, travel medicine (including immunizations), prenatal & baby care, and occupational health care.

Surrey Community Services’ team of professional counsellors offers free counselling with specialization in:

  • Family Counselling (by MCFD or Youth Mental Health referral only)
  • Suicide Prevention, Education and Counselling (19-and-under, self-referral okay)
  • Sexual Abuse Counselling (children/youth plus non-offending family, abuse must have been reported with no current contact with offender, self-referral okay)

This service is for residents of Surrey, White Rock and Langley.


West Coast Wellness Group

West Coast Wellness Group is a small group of counsellors working in a private practice model. They are committed to having a generous sliding scale and to keeping some slots free to take clients on the low end of that scale. They are experienced counsellors with areas of specialty in counselling individuals, couples, families, groups and youth. Appointment times are flexible, with the possibility of evenings. It is a division of Jewish Family Services Agency.

The Trevor Project is an organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ youth through a variety of support services and educational programming. Their services include:

  • The Trevor Lifeline, A 24/7 hotline (see above)

  • Dear Trevor, where you can submit questions to be answered on the site’s Q&A section
  • Trevorspace.org is an online, social networking community for LGBTQ youth ages 13 through 24 and their friends and allies

The Kalayaan Centre is a Filipino community centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The various organizations in the Kalayaan Centre struggle for the rights and welfare of and social justice for Filipinos in Canada, while supporting the struggle for human rights, national freedom and democracy of the Filipino people.

Located in the Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver, the Centre houses a number of organizations doing specific work in various sectors of the Filipino community:

Three Bridges Community Health Centre

Provides free primary care health services by an interdisciplinary team to marginalized populations residing in the West End, Yaletown, Fairview Slopes, downtown Vancouver business district, and downtown South

The clinic operates by appointment Monday to Saturday, and on a drop-in basis 8:30 am to 9:30 am Monday to Friday.

  • Pride Health Services offers counselling and confidential health services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals, including confidential HIV/AIDS health care services.
  • Infant, Child and Youth (ICY) Program provides services including newborn home visits, child health clinics, parent-infant/toddler groups, speech/language services for children up to age five, child and adult immunizations, and health programs in schools.
  • The Adult and Older Adult Program provides services for seniors and people with disabilities, including home nursing, home support, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy; and referrals to meal programs, adult day centres, and assisted living and residential care facilities. Also initiates home-based palliative care and referrals to hospices. This is also a designated agency responsible for looking into reports of suspected abuse and neglect of adults who cannot seek help for themselves.
  • The centre also houses the Boys R Us drop-in centre for male and transgendered sex trade workers in Vancouver, particularly the downtown south area. Open 7 pm to 9 pm Tuesday to Thursday, offers a safe and confidential place for connecting with others, including social activities such as dinner and movies. Helps individuals access resources such as health care, housing, and other community services.
