Surrey Community Services’ team of professional counsellors offers free counselling with specialization in:
- Family Counselling (by MCFD or Youth Mental Health referral only)
- Suicide Prevention, Education and Counselling (19-and-under, self-referral okay)
- Sexual Abuse Counselling (children/youth plus non-offending family, abuse must have been reported with no current contact with offender, self-referral okay)
This service is for residents of Surrey, White Rock and Langley.
Youth Space

Youthspace offers online support to British Columbian youth. They provide an online live chat service and forum discussion board, as well as a way to connect to a professional e-counsellor.
The live chat is open every day (except Wednesday), 6pm to 11pm, and can be accessed here.
The NEED Crisis Line is now closed, unfortunately. You can call the Vancouver Island Crisis Line for service (1-888-494-3888).
SAFER (Suicide Attempt Follow-up, Education & Research)

Works to reduce suicide risk among those in crisis, to assist family and friends who care about them, and to promote healing among those bereaved by suicide.
Vancouver and Burnaby residents: People age 19 and over who have made a suicide attempt, are currently suicidal, or have suicidal ideation, and are assessed as fitting program criteria, can receive individual counselling, advocacy, and hospital liaison within a six-month time frame. Also provides up to three one-on-one psychoeducational sessions to people concerned about suicide in a significant other. Anyone with concerns related to suicide can speak with an intake worker 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
BC-wide services: Anyone bereaved by a suicide death who can attend the office may access one-on-one counselling and a structured support group.
Child and Adolescent Response Team (CART)

Provides a community-based response to mental health related crisis involving school-aged children and youth (up to 18) living in Vancouver who are experiencing urgent psychiatric or emotional crisis. Services can range from phone consultation to on-site assessment or consultation, short-term counselling or psychiatric assessment.
Program offers:
- Urgent assessment and consultation
- Clinical intervention and short term supports
- Community resource co-ordination
- Follow-up from hospital to community resources when needed
- Psychiatric consultation when appropriate
Priority is given to youth that are presenting with self-harming behaviour or suicidal risk.
