Our volunteers are here to chat with you. They’re here to listen to and support you. Our volunteers are our biggest asset – they are real people with real adventures, losses, problems, challenges and opportunities. In a lot of ways they are a lot like you and can relate to your questions and problems.
You can chat with a volunteer about anything you need to – sex, stress, relationships or anything else that’s on your mind.
Below you’ll find the profiles of five of our volunteers. Eric, Steve, Jessica, Sydney and Candice offered to share a bit of their own stories. You might notice that they come from different backgrounds and, like you, each of their life experiences are unique.
(Please note that the person profiled may not be the person you chat with)
Hi everyone! This is Eric! I’ve been volunteering at the Crisis centre for almost a year now and I enjoy speaking to different people and just being a person they can talk through their problems with. I am constantly amazed with how people are able to work through their problems and with the strength they have inside of them, even when they don’t know it.
Hey! I’m Steve and I’m 21 years old. At the moment, I’m hoping to get into a social work program (crossing fingers!). Vancouver’s been my home for about ten years now, and although the rain can be a little daunting, I’ve met some amazing people during my time here.
Hey everyone! I’m Jessica, 23 years old from Vancouver and I’ve been at the Crisis Centre for about 3 years now. I graduated from psychology, and I am currently in UBC’s Education program to become an elementary school teacher.
Hey, I’m Sydney and I’m 24. I go to school and live in beautiful Vancouver. I’ve been volunteering at the Crisis Centre forever and by that I mean 5 years and counting! I’m currently in my 2nd year of medicine at UBC, and because of that, I don’t work right now and I’m very broke.
Hi! My name is Candice and I’m 21 years old. I live in Vancouver and have been at the Crisis Centre for about 7 months. I work full time at a local magazine… I love photography and used to work as a photographer. Love art in any form, music, movies, paintings. I actually enjoy the rain in Vancouver and love Christmas. I spend most of my time cooking, hanging out with friends. I love Grey’s Anatomy and the Sopranos. I love to talk to people and hear their story, whatever it may be.
