Hey! I’m Steve and I’m 21 years old. At the moment, I’m hoping to get into a social work program (crossing fingers!). Vancouver’s been my home for about ten years now, and although the rain can be a little daunting, I’ve met some amazing people during my time here.

I play guitar and write a lot in my spare time. I’ve lived in three continents throughout my life and speak four languages. I really enjoy learning about new cultures and hope to do more traveling in the near future. In fact, I’ve already made plans for a trip to Southeast Asia this summer!

Talking to people and trying to understand where they’re coming from has always been an important part of my life. Early on in high school, I experienced the ups and downs of coming out as an openly gay student, while also facing the challenges of a newly immigrated Canadian. Life seemed quite overwhelming and stressful at times. While I was overcoming the difficulties of adjusting to life in a new country, I was also discovering the many obstacles of dating, finding my identity and being respected as a young gay person.

My experience growing up is one of the many reasons I enjoy volunteering here: I keep an open ear to youth who might be going through rough times and try my best to support them in any way I can. Being listened to and understood is sometimes half the battle.
